Julie Jacobson, Worcester’s assistant city manager, has signed a three-year contract to be Auburn’s first town manager.
Auburn is changing its form of government from a town administrator to a strong town manager system and Jacobson will occupy the newly created position, according to Auburn Board of Selectmen Chairman Timothy Hicks. The new system will give the town manager more autonomous control in making appointments and in negotiating union contracts.
Jacobson currently oversees economic development and grant writing functions for Worcester. She’s expected to start in Auburn on Jan. 30. There is no word on whether Worcester officials plan to fill Jacobson’s position.
