Hologic, a medical imaging device giant based in Marlborough, is fighting alongside one of TV’s most recognizable names to help spread awareness about cervical cancer.
Erin Andrews, a sportscaster and host of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, will become a spokeswoman of sorts for Hologic’s We Can Change This STAT Initiative - a push to encourage women to get regular tests after her own brush with cervical cancer in 2016.
Andrews’ cancer was found early at a routine exam and treated. Going to her doctor regularly saved her life, she said in a statement.
“No matter how busy you are, you have to find the time to be tested regularly for cervical cancer,” Andrews said.

Hologic, which claims to be the market-leading U.S. supplier of Pap and HPV tests frequently used together to screen for precancerous and cancerous cells on the cervix, cited several alarming statistics about cervical cancer.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, 8 million women between the ages of 21 to 65 have not been tested for cervical cancer in the last five years.
Citing a study, Hologic said more than half of new cervical cancer cases occur in women who have never been tested or had rarely been tested.
In a statement, Hologic’s Diagnostic Solutions President Tom West said many insurance policies cover these tests with no deductible, and clinics across the country provide these tests at a low or no cost.
“No matter their circumstances, women can and should get tested regularly for this preventable cancer,” West said.
