Bedford-based Hologic, Inc. which has operations in Marlborough, announced it has named Stephen P. MacMillan as its new president and CEO.
MacMillian succeeds Jack W. Cumming, who served as CEO from 2001 to 2009, and assumed the post again in July when Robert A. Cascella stepped down for personal reasons, according to Hologic.
David. R. LaVance, chairman of the board of directors for the medical device company focused on women’s health, said it became clear at the board’s first meeting with MacMillan in October that he was the right person for the job. MacMillan has 24 years of experience in the industry, and most recently served as president and CEO of Stryker Corp., a global medical device company.
“The board unanimously concluded that his track record of delivering strong financial results and creating shareholder value makes him the ideal chief executive officer for Hologic,” LaVance said in a statement.
MacMillan called the job a “tremendous opportunity.”
“I will work with the talented team at Hologic to determine the best path forward for the company and leverage its key franchises to drive sustainable growth. I am excited to take the necessary steps to enhance value for all shareholders,” MacMillan said.
