U.S. hiring expectations are as positive as they've been in more than two years and up 9 percent over this time last year, according to Manpower. Companies predict small staffing gains for the first quarter of 2011. Seasonally adjusted data shows an overall upbeat staffing outlook throughout 2010.

The number of employers planning to maintain current staffing levels is still steady. Most industry sectors - 7 out of 13 - expect to keep their workforce relatively stable as compared with this time last year.

On a global scale, the strongest hiring trends are expected in China, India, Taiwan, Brazil, Turkey and Singapore. The most recent outlook also represents the only positive hiring predictions by Italian companies in more than two years.

The only negative trends are coming from Greece, the Czech Republic, Austria, Ireland, Spain and Romania.
