Hanover, Saint-Gobain earn high marks on LGBTQ workplace survey

Two large Worcester businesses have been recognized for their LGBTQ workplace practices by the rights advocacy group Human Rights Campaign.

The Hanover Insurance Group, based in Worcester, earned a perfect score of 100 on the HRC’s Corporate Equality Index, a national benchmarking survey and report on workplace equality. 

"We're proud to be recognized as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality," said Kathleen deCastro, executive vice president and chief human resources officer at The Hanover, in a statement. "This award is a reflection of our ongoing commitment to foster an inclusive, engaging and positive work environment, in which employees are empowered, valued, and respected." 

French manufacturer Saint-Gobain, with a large presence in Worcester and U.S. headquarters in Pennsylvania, earned a 90.

In a statement, Saint-Gobain North America CEO Mark Rayfield said the company is dedicated to demonstrating the highest level of commitment to LGBTQ workplace equality. 

“We understand there is still great opportunity for growth, and our score on this year’s CEI points to the areas, like education, where we have achieved success, and also provides valued insights for how we can improve our processes,” he said. 

According to Saint-Gobain, the company offers LGBTQ-inclusive training and conducts site visits to plants in California, Texas and Arkansas to discuss inistiatives related to LGBTQ inclusion.
