Gun reform activists to march from Worcester to gun manufacturer

A survivor of the Parkland, Florida school shooting and the father of one of the victims plan to join Massachusetts students later this month for a 50-mile march calling for gun law reform.
The march is scheduled to begin in Worcester on Aug. 22 and end on Aug. 26 with a rally at the Springfield headquarters of gun manufacturer Smith & Wesson. The event is organized by Stop Handgun Violence, March for Our Lives: Boston and the youth-led gun reform organization 50 Miles More.
The organizers announced Monday that David Hogg, who co-founded the national March for Our Lives group after the February shooting at his high school, and Manuel Oliver, whose son Joaquin was killed in the shooting, would join the march.
"We will walk with these kids as far as they need to in order to reach our common goals," Oliver said in a statement. "My role as father is not over, and I plan to keep playing that role till the last day of my life."
Participants in the 50 Miles More: Massachusetts March are calling on Smith & Wesson to stop making and distributing guns that are illegal in Massachusetts under the state's assault weapon ban, and to donate $5 million to "research violence caused by Smith & Wesson weapons to offset the lack of federal research funding for the gun violence epidemic."
