The federal government is allocating a grant of nearly $740,000 to help about 320 laid-off former workers of Evergreen Solar in Devens and Marlborough, and two staffing companies: Advantage Technical Resourcing and Kelly Services.
The money - $738,179 - from the U.S. Department of Labor is being sent to the Massachusetts Department of Workforce Development and will be used to provide services to the dislocated workers that are not available through the labor department's Trade Adjustment Assistance program.
"Former workers of Evergreen face significant obstacles in finding good jobs in their region," said Jane Oates, assistant secretary of labor for employment and training. "This grant will provide workers with access to re-employment and retraining services to help them obtain jobs in growing industries."
Layoffs at Evergreen, a manufacturer of solar panels, began in January 2011 and continued through May. Workers also were separated from Advantage Technical Resourcing and Kelly Services, which provided on-site leased temporary workers to Evergreen throughout that period, the government said.
Marlborough-based Evergreen filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last year after facing financial difficulties from Chinese competition.
