From The Editor: Changes To Reporter Beats

The end of a calendar year presents an opportune time to make changes or tweaks to your organization or how you do things, and we always hope those changes amount to more than just tinkering, but moves that make the business better, grow revenue or improve productivity. At the WBJ, producing and presenting compelling content for our audience is and always will be our primary mission, one we take seriously and execute with passion and great pride.

How we set things up behind the scenes to produce what you see in print or online is — for the most part — largely an unknown to our readers. And I'll go so far as to say that, to most of you, it doesn't really matter how we "make our sausage." You just want it to be appetizing.

One of the changes we're undertaking, beginning this month, is that our staff of three full-time reporters will focus their coverage of the region through industry "beats." Their assignments are as follows:

Jacquelyn Gutc (jgutc@wbjournal.com) will cover real estate, education, energy/environment and hospitality;

Emily Micucci (emicucci@wbjournal.com) will cover health care, retail and law; and

Matt Pilon (mpilon@wbjournal.com) will cover banking and finance, manufacturing, technology and biotech.

This structure will help us strengthen our already-strong relationships with key players in each industry, and enable us to be closer to the action with our coverage. We hope this will produce more insightful stories and more breaking news on many fronts.

If you have a story idea you'd like to share with us, feel free to reach out to the reporter covering that beat. We hope these changes will help us better tap the great resource that you, our readers, have in your knowledge of what's going on in a variety of industries and companies. We want to hear story ideas, but also any feedback you have on the WBJ and how we can better serve your needs for local business news and information. So, don't hesitate to contact me at rsaia@wbjournal.com.

Our very best wishes for the holidays and the New Year.
