Framingham launches new economic development campaign

Framingham officials will launch a new campaign highlighting the town’s new approach to economic development today.

Framingham Town Manager Robert Halpin said in a statement that the campaign, “Choose Framingham for Business,” is “meant to send a clear message to the town, the region, and all of Greater Boston that Framingham is open for business.”

The launch, which is being announced at Genzyme Corp.’s Framingham campus on Mountain Way this afternoon, tops off a year-long effort by the town to overhaul economic development policies in order to encourage growth. This includes establishing economic development zones, streamlining permitting processes for building, and hiring an economic development director.

“Going forward, we want to expand and attract companies across the spectrum, from large, established firms to small entrepreneurial ones,” Halpin said.

Today’s launch event at 4:30 will include remarks from Framingham-based business leaders. Paul Logue, vice president and general manager at Genzyme, said that in addition to enjoying a “terrific” working relationship with the town, Framingham is a prime location for other reasons.

“Framingham has other assets that are essential to a company like ours — a talented workforce throughout the region combined with incredible access,” Logue said.
