Fontaine Bros. creates corporate foundation

As chief diversity officer, Liz Wambui reports directly to the executive in charge of Fontaine Bros.

The 89-year-old construction company Fontaine Bros., which is based in Springfield with a major operations in Worcester, has established a corporation foundation in which each of its employees has a say in where money is directed.

The Fontaine Community Foundation will be led by Elizabeth Wambui, who is Fontaine’s director of diversity, inclusion and community impact, according to a Thursday press release announcing the foundation. Fontaine didn't disclose how much money the foundation is initially seeded with.

The mission of the foundation will be to build partnerships with organizations focused on creating stronger communities and contributing to the common good, with an eye toward quality education and affordable healthcare access. Fontaine employees can direct a portion of the foundation’s annual giving to a cause of their choosing.

“By creating and funding an employee-directed giving component of the foundation’s efforts, we are excited to not only connect with a broad range of worthy causes that are personally important to our team members, but also to create and grow the habit of philanthropic giving at every level of our organization,” Wambui said in a press release.

The foundation will host its inaugural golf tournament in August at Longmeadow Country Club. In its lifetime, Fontaine has performed more than $1 billion in collective construction projects across Massachusetts.
