Fitchburg State University graduates who plan to pursue studies in osteopathic medicine will be able to take advantage of a program with a Pennsylvania school after the two institutions signed an agreement.
The agreement with Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM), in Erie, Pa., will allow Fitchburg State (FSU) students into several study areas of osteopathic medicine either before they graduate from Fitchburg State or during their first two years at LECOM. Successful students will be given provisional acceptance to the program, and upon meeting final requirements will attend classes at the LECOM campus of their choice, according to a statement from FSU. LECOM has branch campuses in Greensburg, Pa. and Bradenton, Fla.
The programs include doctor of osteopathic medicine, doctor of dental medicine and doctor of pharmacy.
“This agreement will open doors of opportunity to our students,” FSU President Robert Antonucci said. “With our new, state-of-the-art science facilities, and a rejuvenated chemistry major, we are well-positioned to prepare students for careers in the health sciences.” The accord with LECOM “provides yet another avenue for our students to succeed,” he said.
