Fitchburg Benefits As Providence Manufacturer Folds

Fitchburg-based Seaboard Folding Box Corp. has ceased operations at its C.J. Fox subsidiary in Providence, R.I. and has moved its remaining employees to Fitchburg.

According to a Providence Business News report, C.J. Fox ceased almost all production at its box, label and tag manufacturing factory in May when it was bought by Seaboard. Seaboard offered jobs in Fitchburg to 70 C.J. Fox employees, but only 15 accepted.

Seaboard had excess capacity at its Fitchburg plant, the Providence Business News reported.

Seaboard is a family-owned company that has been based in Fitchburg for about 50 years. It operates its main facility on Daniels Street in Fitchburg as well as the Specialty Packaging Caribbean Box Co. in Miami and Pioneer Paper Box in East Rutherford, N.J.

C.J. Fox was started in 1903 by Charles J. Fox.

Seaboard took on Fox's packaging business, but sold off its label and tag business, Fox Tag & Label to Pamco Label Co. Inc. of Illinois, according to PBN.
