Joseph’s House, a 140-unit apartment complex in Fitchburg, has received $290,000 in upgrades through Unitil and the MassSave program.
The complex now has updated heating, hot water systems and LED light fixtures thanks to MassSave, according to Unitil, which is a MassSave sponsor and paid for the project.
“These initiatives go a long way toward helping multi-family facilities use energy more efficiently and makes the residents more comfortable. It is a real win-win,” Aec O’Meara, Unitil media relations manager, said in a statement.
The apartment complex, built in 1983, had its old equipment replaced with six new high-efficiency boilers, three water heaters and over 1,000 LED fixtures. The annual energy savings are anticipated to be over 240,000 therms of natural gas, enough to heat 300 homes for a year, with electric savings of 339,000 kWh of electricity over the expected life of the new equipment, or a year’s worth of electricity used by 50 houses.
