First-Time Jobless Claims Reach 3-Month High

In the week ending July 31, 479,000 Americans filed claims for unemployment insurance coverage for the first time, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
That's an increase of 19,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 460,000. The 4-week moving average was 458,500, an increase of 5,250 from the previous week.
The insured unemployment rate was 3.6 percent for the week ending July 24, unchanged from the prior week.
