First-Time Jobless Claims, PPI Climb

In the week ending Feb. 13, 473,000 Americans filed claims for unemployment insurance coverage for the first time, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

That's an increase of 31,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 442,000.The 4-week moving average was 467,500, a decrease of 1,500 from the previous week.

In a separate report, the department said the Producer Price Index (PPI), a measure of wholesale prices paid by companies, increased by 1.4 percent in January. The increase followed a 0.4 percent increase in December and a 1.5 percent increase in November.
