Family Health Center of Worcester is one of 12 Massachusetts organizations receiving $360,000 in grants from the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation in support of efforts to improve perinatal care for pregnant people of color.

FHCW received $30,000 through the foundation’s Perinatal Health Initiative grant program for the nonprofit’s OB Advocate program, providing community members with trained doula advocates beginning during pregnancy through two years postpartum.

In designing the Perinatal Health Initiative, the foundation met with more than 30 community organizations and leaders in the perinatal field. The one-year grants ranged from $20,000 to $50,000 each, with FHCW as the sole Central Massachusetts organization to receive funding.
The foundation’s funding comes as FHCW is preparing for its fall fundraiser, looking to meet if not exceed its goal of raising $100,000 in donations.
