Employment Costs Up 0.7 Percent In Q2

In the three months ending in June, compensation costs for civilian workers in the United States rose 0.7 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Wages and salaries, which make up about 70 percent of employment costs, rose 0.4 percent, while benefits rose 1.3 percent.

For the 12 months ending in June, compensation costs rose 2.2 percent, compared with a 1.9 percent increase over the previous year. The increase for private sector workers was 2.3 percent, while government employees' compensation rose 1.9 percent.

In New England, compensation costs rose 1 percent over the last three months and 2.6 percent over the year.
