The Franklin Brewing Co., the first craft brewery in the town, is planning to open in mid-December, a family-friendly passion project for a group of four cousins and one long-time family friend.
"This microbrewery is our first venture. The team embarked on this journey because we wanted to build a place centered around family," said co-owner Olivier Edouard. "Franklin is a great town with a lot of young families and professionals who often travel long distances to enjoy the atmosphere of a microbrewery and a good pint."
In addition to Olivier Edouard, the owners of the brewery are his cousins Laury Lucien, Duche Edouard, and Robins Edouard and his childhood friend Arnold Cazeau.
The owners are largely the ones running day-to-day operations of the brewery, as its only employee is its master brewer. The company plans to hire two or three more workers after it opens.
Franklin Brewing's tentative opening date is Dec. 14, although that could shift as the ownership group finalizes the details. Its Facebook page will be updated if the opening date changes.
"As many on our team are dads, gran-dads, and artists in our early years, we wanted to create a brewery that is welcoming and artistic; where folks felt comfortable bringing their kids and tail waging furry friends," said Olivier Edouard.
The brewery plans to produce 500 barrels by the end of its first year, with a reach extending from Hopkinton to Foxborough. Its two signature beers will be the Route 140 signature New England IPA, named after the state highway in Franklin; and Forge Park, a West Coast-style IPA, named after the last stop of the MBTA Commuter Rail line in Franklin and Bellingham.
"Our beers are built on the concept of BrAles (Breakfast Ales...and some lagers of course), beer so delicious you can drink it at breakfast...although we would recommend waiting till brunch," said Olivier Edouard.
Franklin Brewing will be the 202nd brewery in Massachusetts, according to the national trade group Brewers Association.
