Westborough healthcare information technology firm eClinicalWorks has been in unprecedented demand during the coronavirus pandemic. The firm's telehealth product has been used for more than 10 million minutes through the first 10 days of April, good for a million minutes a day.
It's little mystery why so many are turning to healow, as the electronic communication platform is called. Many hospitals and doctors' offices have postponed in-person appointments to ease burdens on staff and open up physical capacity during the pandemic, while lessening the risk of infection.
Just over a month ago, on March 9, eClinicalWorks' platform had 400,000 users a week. By March 23, it was 3.6 million users a week, and by April 6, it was 6.4 million. More than 40,000 physicians use the platform, according to the company.
“Access to care is one of the biggest challenges facing healthcare today, and we believe that our telehealth solution is allowing and will continue to enable physicians to provide quality patient care, and to assist in better decision-making for patients,” Girish Navani, the CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks, said in a statement.
The healow platform includes video chatting, text communications, patient questionnaires, and online scheduling. Patients can upload vital signs from wearable devices such as glucose meters and blood pressure cuffs to pass along to their clinician. The platform works on both Android and Apple phones and on computer browsers.
The firm says it's the second largest in the country for e-prescribing, with offices in five other locations across the United States, plus Dubai, India and London.
