With the economy in tatters and unemployment rising, folks who find themselves out of work must be resourceful and should follow a few pieces of key advice while searching for employment, according to Robert Half International.
Half, an international temporary staffing firm, says a job search climate like the current one is the time to cash in on who you know. Half encourages job seekers to look for jobs outside their current industries and to take a temporary job or an internship to minimize gaps in one’s employment history.
The firm also suggests ways to use trade journals and networking to find jobs before they’re advertised. Job seekers should also do away with any online evidence of embarrassing extracurricular activities, tailor cover letters and resumes to each potential employer and bone up on the skills that are most in demand.
