The Town of Douglas received $3 million on Thursday for two nearly $150-million warehouse development projects spanning three towns, according to a press release from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development.
The grant provided by MassWorks’ Infrastructure Program will support water and sewer upgrades for two warehouse developments along Route 146 in Douglas, Sutton, and Uxbridge, per the release.
A 70-acre parcel of land in those three towns is slated to become Blackstone Logistics Center. Located along Lackey Dam Road, the project will include 646,000 square feet warehouse distribution space, according to Sutton’s website. Construction began in November, Douglas Town Administrator Matthew Wojcik said, and is expected to be occupied by the end of the year.
The land was sold to Indianapolis real estate developers Scannell Properties for $5 million in early September.
A second 1.1-million-square-foot warehouse is proposed on the other end of Lackey Dam Road and is being developed by Clayco, Inc., a Chicago-based construction company.
The two warehouses receiving MassWorks grants will yield a total of 1.74 million square feet of new industrial space, 800 permanent jobs, and $147 million in private investment, according to the release.
