Results of a recent Accountemps survey found that many job-seekers must do a little better when it comes time to answer the question: "Why should I hire you."
Accountemps, a temporary employment agency for the accounting industry, asked 150 executives to share the most unusual pitches they'd heard from prospective employees. Needless to say, the job-seekers' responses were well away from describing what they could do for the company, describing their experience or showing actual interest in the open position.
Some of the more eye-opening responses were:
"An individual told me he was allergic to unemployment."
"One candidate said that we should hire him because he would be a great addition to our softball team."
"One individual said we had nice benefits, which was good because he was going to need to take a lot of leave in the next year."
"A gentleman delivered his entire cover letter verbally as a rap song."
"One person brought his mother to the job interview and let her do all the talking."
