The Westborough medical software company eClinicalWorks says it's looking to expand in its hometown and beyond despite making the decision this year to lease out all of a four-story office building it bought in 2015.
That building, at 900 W. Park Drive, is logistically impractical, the company said Thursday. EClinicalWorks bought the 193,000-square-foot building from computer company EMC for $21 million but never moved in.
Leasing out that building is not indicative of financial troubles or other hardship at the company though, eClinicalWorks said.
The 20-year-old company said 2018 was its strongest-ever sales year, as it added more than 10,000 health providers. The company said it has more than 130,000 doctors and nurse practitioners and 850,000 medical professionals who use its electronic health records and other software programs.
Revenue climbed to $550 million in 2018, up 12% in one year.
EClinicalWorks said it is looking to expand in Westborough and other locations in the United States and abroad, but didn't provide details on how many workers or how much square feet it is looking to add.
EClinicalWorks is based at 2 Technology Drive in a building offering around 100,000 square feet. It bought a building across the street at 1 Technology Drive in 2012 where it now occupies all 61,000 square feet.
