A Leominster woman has been indicted for allegedly stealing tens of thousands of dollars from elderly individuals, stealing identities to posture as a healthcare provider at agencies throughout Worcester and Middlesex counties.
A statewide grand jury indicted 33-year-old Regina Henaku on March 20 for charges brought against her by the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office. The AGO alleges between August and November, Henaku stole the bank cards of at least 16 elderly victims, using the cards of 11 victims to steal approximately $28,000 while attempting to steal from the other five, according to a Friday press release from the AGO. Each victim was more than 60 years old, with some enrolled in MassHealth, the state’s Medicaid program.
Henaku is accused of stealing the identities of a relative and a former co-worker to fabricate professional credentials and gain employment at at least five different healthcare facilities throughout the Worcester and Middlesex counties, including at a Framingham long-term care facility, assisted living facilities in Hudson and Leominster, and a Bedford senior living facility, according to the press release. Henaku allegedly stayed in each position for a few weeks.
She is charged with nine counts of larceny over $250 from an elder or disabled person; credit card fraud; attempted larceny over $250 from an elder or disabled person; identity fraud; and misleading the police/obstruction of justice, according to the release.
Henaku is being accused of purposefully misleading local police during their investigation of her by posing as and using the identity of her relative.
The AGO’s most recent allegations come after charges were brought against a Worcester clinical lab and its owner for their alleged part in a $7.8-million MassHealth fraud scheme.
