December Jobless Rates Jump Around Central Mass

December unemployment rates were higher in all of the state's 22 labor markets than they were in November, according to the state Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

The state's unadjusted jobless rate increased from 8.3 percent in November to 9.1 percent the following month.

Three of the state's labor markets - Framingham, Pittsfield and Springfield - registered job gains in December.

Framingham's unemployment rate increased from 6.6 percent to 7.1 percent during the month, however.

The Worcester area's jobless rate increased from 8.7 percent to 9.4 between November and December and the Leominster-Fitchburg-Gardner area's rate increased from 10.8 percent to 12 percent over the same period.
