Consumers Don't Expect Big Shopping Changes

About 60 percent of respondents from New England said they plan to spend the same or more during the holiday season this year, according to a new survey by Deloitte.

Specifically, half of respondents said they will spend the same amount and about 10 percent said they plan on spending more. Another 40 percent said they will spend less.

Consumers also reported that they will change the way they're shopping. More than 70 percent of respondents said online research will influence their holiday shopping. Another 16 percent said they will use their smartphones during holiday shopping to compare prices at other stores or read product reviews.

The results are from the 25th annual Deloitte Holiday Survey, which polls more than 12,000 consumers nationwide and breaks down regionally-specific data. Deloitte is an Wilton, Conn.-based financial advisory firm.
