Cytovia Therapeutics, a biopharmaceutical manufacturer of cancer-fighting cell therapies, has expanded its research and development operations with a new lab in Natick opened this month.

The Aventura, Fla. and Boston-based company develops cancer treatments using natural killer cells altered to fight cancer. The new lab, located in the ABI-LAB bioincubator lab in Natick, will work on natural killer cell biology, gene-editing, antibody and chimeric antigen receptors development and natural killer cell pilot manufacturing, according to a release from the company.

“The facility has been designed to allow multi-product manufacturing, enabling Cytovia to produce iPSC-derived CAR NK therapeutics for thousands of patients and positioning it as a leading cell therapy company with full clinical and commercial manufacturing capabilities,” Robert Salcedo, the president of BioSciencesCorp and acting head of Cytovia manufacturing, said in the release.

The company opened the new location on March 1 and anticipates it will be fully operational during the second quarter, according to company officials. The firm anticipates approximately 20 people will be hired at the location this year.
