Caliper Narrows Loss As Revenue Dips

Caliper Life Sciences Inc. narrowed its second quarter loss to $4.1 million from $6.7 million a year ago as revenue declined from $34 million to $32 million over the same time.

The Hopkinton medical research technology company said it managed to use less cash during the quarter, and it spent less in nearly every operational category. As a result, its operating loss for the quarter was $3.8 million compared to $6.2 million a year ago.

For the year, Caliper expects revenue between $126 million and $129 million, which represents growth of between 5 percent and 7 percent over the prior year. The company said it also expects to report positive operating earnings for the second half of 2009 and all of 2010.
