Worcester-based online lighting retailer Bulbs.com said today it had record sales in 2011, exceeding $12.1 million the year before.
The 13-year-old company hopes to grow its 45-person staff by 10 percent or more this year, said CEO Michael Connors.
Connors said the books are not yet closed on 2011 so he could not disclose to what extent sales grew.
But he said 2011 was the first significant revenue year for the company in LED lighting sales and predicted those bulbs would be the fastest-growing segment in the coming years.
He said 80 percent of Bulbs.com's revenue comes from commercial clients.
Connors also credited the boost to redesigning part of the company's website after conducting online usability and customer satisfaction research. He said the company also increased its focus on repeat business through email marketing and phone calls to customers from its Worcester-based call center.
