There may be plenty of people looking for work these days, but there are also plenty of jobs going unfilled. And if companies want to hire the talented people they need, especially once the economy recovers, they need to start thinking about their employer branding now.
That's the advice of a new report by employment services giant Manpower Inc.
Globally, the report says, 30 percent of employers say they're having trouble filling jobs these days. That's down from 41 percent in 2007, but it still reflects the fact that high unemployment doesn't mean companies can always find the right people to fill their open positions.
For example, in the U.S., accounting and finance professionals are easy to find, but openings for those with expertise in debt restructuring, forensic accounting and international accounting are going unfilled, the report says.
Across 33 countries surveyed for the report, the jobs employer are having most trouble filling are skill trades jobs, sales representatives, technicians and engineers.
To attract talented employees, the report says, companies need to identify their distinctive, compelling characteristics that make workers want to help fulfill their employers' missions. To do that, they can ask their best employees why they came to work there and what they like about the organization.
