Bolton winding machine manufacturer Broomfield announced on Thursday it had acquired and plans to revive the Thermoplastics Engineering Corp., a wire and cable extruder manufacturer, in Leominster, which closed operations in 2019.
As part of the acquisition, TEC’s former owner, Ernest Landry, will take on a consultative role.
Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Notably, Broomfield opted to purchase TEC after viewing the Leominster property with the intention of potentially using the space to expand its own production facilities. When Broomfield leadership learned that TEC formerly occupied the space, they decided to explore purchasing the company altogether, according to the announcement.
“Ernest [Landry] is an outstanding engineer with an incredible depth of knowledge in wire and cable extruder machine design," said Broomfield vice president Andrew Broomfield, in a statement. “We saw a lot of value in preserving that expertise and reinvigorating a brand that has been a critical resource for so many organizations.”
Broomfield cast the connection and acquisition of TEC as a fated opportunity.
