On Thursday, Boston nonprofit American Student Assistance awarded a $450,000 grant to the Blackstone Valley Superintendents' Consortium to increase workforce training opportunities for high school students, particularly those from underserved populations.
The BVSC includes the school districts of Bellingham, Blackstone-Millville, Douglas, Grafton, Hopedale, Mendon-Upton, Milford, Millbury, Northbridge, Sutton, Uxbridge, and Blackstone Valley Technical School.
The ASA grant will support alternative pathways to jobs, certifications, opportunities for hands-on learning, and real-world workforce experiences for high school students.
Currently, the Blackstone Valley Technical High School is unable to accept all of the students who want to pursue a work-based education.
The American Student Assistance is a national nonprofit that helps to foster student understanding of postsecondary education and career pathways.
