Bay State Rises In Foreclosure Ranks

Massachusetts rose from 10th to 8th place for foreclosure activity between April and May, according to a new report by online foreclosure company RealtyTrac.

The company, which bases its information on default notices, auction sale notices and bank repossessions, showed May’s national foreclosure numbers increasing by 7 percent from April and by 48 percent from May 2007. The Massachusetts total foreclosure number for May – 6,676 – was 32.8 percent higher than the previous month and 54.6 percent higher than in May 2007, but the company said the increase may have been artificially inflated by changes in data collection.

Nevada, California and Arizona remained at numbers one, two and three in the rankings.
