Massachusetts will soon become the next state to implement a digital vaccine passport system, falling in ranks with states like California, New York, and, most recently, Rhode Island, Gov. Charlie Baker said on a Monday episode of GBH News’ Boston Public Radio.
The system Massachusetts plans to launch features a scannable QR code and is being worked on with between 15 and 20 other states, Baker said on the program.
“This is my proof that I’ve been vaccinated,” Baker said, demonstrating the technology to the program’s hosts.
The QR code system could be used , he said, “for all sorts of things where people may choose to require a vaccine.”
Proof of vaccination, or else a recent negative COVID test, is required at some businesses in Massachusetts, including Worcester. Both The Palladium and The Hanover Theatre in Worcester are among local venues to implement such a policy.
