Unemployment in Central Massachusetts held fairly steady over the past month but is markedly higher than this point last year.
Greater Worcester’s seasonally unadjusted jobless rate fell from 7.5 to 7.4 percent over the past month, according to the state Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development. But Worcester’s unemployment was just 6.9 percent a year ago.
Unemployment in the Framingham area remained at 5.5 percent over the past month, but is up from 5 percent in 2012.
North Central Massachusetts saw its jobless rate fall from 9.2 to 9.1 percent over the past month. The Leominster-Fitchburg-Gardner area had an unemployment rate of just 8.2 percent a year ago.
Statewide, unemployment fell from 6.9 to 6.8 percent over the past month, but has risen from 6.3 percent a year ago.
The number of people employed over the past month rose by 197 in Worcester but fell by 21 in Framingham and 102 in North Central Massachusetts. The number of people unemployed over the past month rose by 7 in Framingham yet fell by 110 in Leominster-Fitchburg-Gardner and 302 in Worcester.
