Devens-based American Superconductor Corp.‘s Windtec subsidiary will design and develop wind turbines with Dongfang Turbine Co. Ltd. of China.
The companies signed a follow-on contract that calls for Windtec to design and jointly develop 5 megawatt turbines for the offshore wind power market. Dongfang is the third-largest turbine manufacturer in China and shipped more than 800 1.5 megawatt turbines in 2008.
Under a prior agreement with Windtec, Dongfang will begin volume production of 2.5 megwatt turbines in the second half of the year.
