Pending Home Sales Dip In December, Still Beat 2008

Pending sales of single-family homes increased by 5 percent in December over the same month a year ago, according to the Massachusetts Association of Realtors.
However, pending sales were down 19 percent compared to November.
Pending condo sales increased by 26 percent over December 2008, but were down 9.4 percent compared to November, MAR said.
In all, 2,743 single-family homes and 1,248 condo units were put under contract in December. MAR said the federal first-time homebuyer tax encouraged many buyers to enter the market and said the credit extension through April could bolster that trend through the winter months, a typically slow time for real estate sales.
