AIM Bullish On Foreign Ownership

The Associated Industries of Massachusetts is adding a new award to recognize foreign-owned companies that do business in Massachusetts.

In a blog post, AIM points to the buyout of Genzyme by French drug maker Sanofi-Aventis as an example of the importance of foreign investment in the state. The organization says foreign firms provide more than 170,000 jobs in Massachusetts.

The Global Trade Awards, organized by AIM's International Business Council, traditionally recognize Massachusetts companies that take part in international trade, but this year the group says at least one honoree will be a foreign-based business.

Award winners will be honored at AIM's annual meeting May 13 in Waltham. Nominations are due March 31.
