As widely expected, the Irish airline Aer Lingus will start flights between Dublin and Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Conn. in September 2016. An exact date was not provided.

Aer Lingus pre-empted Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy' 2 p.m. news conference today at Bradley. Reports say Aer Lingus will receive up to $5 million in incentives as well as free landing rights for two years.

Aer Lingus said on its corporate blog, total long haul seat capacity will grow by more than 17 percent in 2016, representing the fourth consecutive year of more than double-digit long haul growth. The airline will also be offering non-stop flights from Dublin to Los Angeles, beginning in May, and Newark, also in September.

Service will be on a B757-200 aircraft. It has a maximum capacity of 239, depending on how the cabin is configured. The previous international service from Bradley was on a smaller B737 aircraft with seating for 154 on flights operated by Northwest Airlines.

No pricing information was provided. The new routes will connect to a range of UK and European cities. Customers in Paris, London, Amsterdam, Rome, Manchester, Edinburgh and many other European cities will be able to choose Aer Lingus to bring them to these new U.S. destinations.
