Worcester addiction treatment center AdCare Hospital announced Tuesday it promoted Romas Buivydas to be its new CEO, after he has been serving as vice president of clinical services, according to a Tuesday press release.
Buivydas joined AdCare six months ago, coming from a position as vice president of development and compliance at SpotLyte Behavioral Health in Philadelphia. He has spent more than 20 years in the behavioral health field in program development and risk and data management.
Jeffrey Hillis was the previous CEO, serving since 2018 when his father David Hillis stepped down. Jeffrey Hillis left AdCare in April, and Fred Trapassi, who is CEO of AdCare's Rhode Island branch, stood in as interim CEO in May. Hillis now runs his own consultancy firm, J.W. Hillis Consulting, LLC in Hudson.
Buivydas holds a PhD in clinical counseling from St. James University and a master’s degree from Boston University. He’s also a licensed mental health counselor, as well as a member of the American Psychotherapy Association and the American Board of Psychological Specialties.
AdCare provides substance use treatment in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. It was acquired by American Addiction Centers in 2018.
