With the Great Recession offering undeniable proof of how precarious employment can be, many workers are now looking for ways to get firmer ground under their feet, even if that means switching jobs.
That’s according to a new study by Robert Half.
The staffing firm found that four in 10 professionals are more inclined to look for new positions with different employers because of the recession.
Employees’ post-recession plans differed by generation. Gen Y members are most likely to look for a new job, those in Gen X plan to update their skills, and boomers most commonly said they plan to stay put.
Nearly half of all workers, and more than half of the boomers, expect to work past the traditional retirement age.
The study found the three generations have much in common, including the belief in the importance of job security, a good salary and benefits.
