The Worcester-based Regional Environmental Council of Central Massachusetts received one of six Community Transformation Awards from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. REC received the award for leadership in addressing issues of food justice and environmental health, with efforts such as community farmers' markets.
Carol Donnelly won the Worcester Center for Crafts' Barrett Morgan Award. Donnelly was center president from 2005-2006. She served as interim executive director of the center for three years. Donnelly, a Worcester State University teacher, has a master's degree in education from Harvard and a doctorate in early childhood education from Boston University.
The Mohegan Council, Boy Scouts of America chose six Central Massachusetts leaders for awards at its Grand Gala & Auction: Worcester City Manager Michael O'Brien; Greater Worcester Community Foundation President and CEO Ann Lisi; Dr. Abraham Haddad, assistant professor of clinical surgery at the University of Massachusetts Medical School; David Grenon, retired founding president of The Protector Group Insurance Agency; Craig Blais, president and CEO of Worcester Business Development Corp; and David Surprenant, managing partner of Mirick O'Connell.
Worcester-based Bay State Savings Bank received the Better Business Bureau's 2012 Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics. The award was presented at the Central Mass. Business Expo at the DCU Center on Nov. 1.
Milford-based WMRC 1490-AM won the Massachusetts Broadcasters Association Station of the Year award for excellence in radio.
Marvin S. Silver was named to the 2013 edition of Best Lawyers in America in the area of trusts and estates. Silver, of Partridge Snow & Hahn LLP, with offices in Westborough, has also been named to the 2012 Massachusetts Super Lawyers in the area of estate planning and probate.
Natick Visiting Nurse Association has been named a top agency of the 2012 HomeCare Elite, which honors the top Medicare-certified agencies and highlights the top 100 and top 500 agencies overall. n
