2011 40 Under Forty: Thea Marcoux

MARKETING SPECIALIST, Schott North America Inc.

Company location: Southbridge

Residence: Auburn

Favorite movie: "Lord of the Rings"

Age: 33

Career highlights: After graduating, I started working in sales, learning what would ultimately give me the experience I needed for success in my marketing career. Now I work for Schott North America as a marketing specialist. During my 4 ½ years at Schott, I have had the fortune to travel to eight countries, live in Germany for three months and work with colleagues all across the globe.

Community involvement: I am a member of the board of directors at the Central Mass. South Chamber of Commerce, where I also chair the communications committee. Additionally, I have recently had the honor to be elected to the board of overseers at Old Sturbridge Village.

Biggest success: My biggest success professionally is landing a career with an organization that does an outstanding job of supporting its colleagues by allowing us to grow and achieve our personal and professional goals. I work with some of the most talented, knowledgeable and helpful people on the planet, and I am very proud to call them friends and colleagues. I am also particularly proud of my two American Marketing Association CT Chapter Awards for marketing achievements.

Biggest challenge: My biggest professional challenge has been to effectively balance my demanding career with my personal life. I travel often for work, and this means many days and nights away from home and loved ones.

Mentors: I have honestly had the fortune to work alongside many talented individuals and each has taught me something special in their own unique way. That being said, if I had to choose one person who has influenced me the most, I would single out my dad. No matter how old I am, I will always be daddy’s little girl. He is my hero.

Hidden talent: I taught myself to juggle. I can juggle just about anything from standard juggling balls to knives. However, I’ve since concluded that juggling talents are not all that handy while working at a glass company.
