PRESIDENT/INTERIOR DESIGNER, Woodard Interiors
Company location: Grafton
Residence: Grafton
Favorite color: As a designer, that's a tough one. Currently I like various shades of blue.
Age: 38
Career highlights: After graduating from Syracuse with a degree in interior design, I moved to Raleigh, N.C., and worked at an interior design firm that focuses on federal government office interiors. After eight years we decided to move back to New York to be closer to family. I worked at an architectural firm in Rhinebeck, N.Y., that specializes in health care design. After three years we moved to Massachusetts, where I decided to start my own commercial interior design firm. More than four years later, I have my own successful firm.
Community involvement: I like to volunteer my time locally to help support our community. I am a member of the Grafton School Building Committee for the town’s new high school project. Twice each summer I organize a group of young professionals to volunteer for a half day at the Community Harvest Project Farm in North Grafton, which supplies fresh produce to the Worcester County Food Bank. I am also a member of the board of directors for both the Corridor Nine Area Chamber of Commerce and Network of Enterprising Women.
Biggest success: Starting my own commercial interior design firm, watching it blossom, and knowing that its success is a result of my hard work.
Biggest challenge: Starting up a new business during the beginning of what turns out to be one of our country’s worst recessions ever.
Mentors: I wouldn’t say that I have had just one mentor. I feel as if I have had many mentors that have provided me with the guidance and knowledge that has helped shape me as a design professional.
Hidden talent: I have always been an extremely patient person.
