OWNER/SERVICE MANAGER, Ahearn Equipment
Company location: Spencer
Residence: Worcester
Favorite color: Kubota orange
Age: 32
Career highlights: I graduated with biology and business management degrees and began my career in the turf industry. I worked at a few golf courses in Massachusetts, including Leicester Country Club in Leicester and Brae Burn Country Club in Newton, before switching my profession to help manage growth of the family business. I have been at Ahearn Equipment for nine years now.
Community involvement: I am a past president of the Worcester Young Businessmen’s Association. I also serve on the executive board for the Worcester Economic Club and the Mohegan Council Boy Scout Organization. I am a corporator for Becker College as well.
Biggest success: Professionally, Josh and I have been able to build upon our parents’ success and make Ahearn Equipment a stronger, better company than when we started.
Biggest challenge: One of the hardest challenges of growing the family business is effectively communicating with the different types of people in the family and the organization. Our people are what make Ahearn Equipment great, but they come in many different shapes and forms. Being able to share thoughts and lead toward a vision is interpreted by everyone uniquely; helping them to share that vision is the challenge.
Mentors: It’s been a collection of people that I have learned from, including my brother, my parents, some of my teachers, and various business people in the Worcester community.
Hidden talent: I think the fact that my family has been able to work together so closely for so many years to make Ahearn Equipment move forward is a hidden talent we all hold.
