Age: 39
Title: Owner & Director
Company: Pleasantries Adult Day Services
Company location: Marlborough Residence: Northborough
College: Assumption College and Anna Maria College
Career highlights: After receiving my master’s of counseling psychology, I began my career in health care as a social worker. Since then, my roles included: Alzheimer’s program director, director of admissions, marketing, and community relations in nonprofit health care facilities, a national health care corporation, and a family- owned nursing facility. During this tough economy, my position was eliminated and I lost my job. I used this time to create Pleasantries Adult Day Services.
Community involvement: I am currently on the planning committee for the Central Massachusetts Alzheimer’s Association’s Memory Walk happening Sept. 13, 2009. I provide a free community based Alzheimer’s Caregivers’ Support Group once every month. It allows me to provide education and support to those affected by this disease.
Biggest professional success: Creating a better day for my guests at Pleasantries is my biggest professional achievement. I created a welcoming and warm home environment where these individuals can rid themselves of loneliness, depression, and isolation. I created a program that cures the craving for socialization.
Dream job: What I am doing right now is my ultimate dream job. I feel very fortunate with my success at Pleasantries. It is what I love to do.
Businessperson she admires most and why: I truly admire Kim Harmon, owner of Harmon Home Health and a former 40 under Forty recipient. She recognized the sacrifices one must take to succeed in creating her own business and followed through. She is wise, creative and can offer professional advice.
Favorite movie: Beaches with Bette Midler. It’s funny, entertaining, and emotional. I love the music.
