Liana P. Moore
Age: 36
Title: Partner
Company: Bowditch and Dewey LLP
Company location: Worcester
Residence: Mendon
College: Binghamton University and Boston University
Career highlights: I am a partner at the law firm of Bowditch and Dewey LLP. My practice is focused primarily on complex real estate and permitting transactions, with a particular focus on issues and transactions involving large utility companies. I graduated from Boston University School of Law in May 1997. I am licensed in both New York and Massachusetts. I worked as a real estate representative with a utility company after graduating from law school until June 2000, at which point I joined the real estate practice area at Bowditch and Dewey.
Community involvement: What I enjoy most about volunteering is working with people from diverse backgrounds in pursuit of making positive and lasting impacts on the local community. My primary involvement in the local community right now is as a member of the board of directors of Leadership MetroWest, a nonprofit community leadership development organization. Their mission is to harness the power of civic engagement and cross-sector collaboration to provide the region with informed and inspired leaders. At the flagship program, the “Leadership Academy” (of which I am an alumna), participants explore regional issues, meet with local leaders, and develop business and civic relationships.
Biggest professional success: My biggest success professionally has been to become an accomplished attorney in the real estate practice area at the law firm of Bowditch & Dewey. As a working mother of three children (5 and under), I helped raise awareness of work-family balance issues, and provided insight on the firm’s flexible work arrangement to ensure that reduced-hours lawyers could be successful and prosperous. I was able to grow my practice and develop strong client relationships while maintaining balanced hours. I achieved partnership this past year.
Dream job: My ultimate dream job is a singer/songwriter. Music is a powerful and timeless medium for conveying stories, emotions, and history.
Businessperson she admires most and why: The business person I most admire is Bill Gates. He realizes his potential by pursing his passions. His perseverance shaped the technology industry and transformed communications. His philanthropic undertakings, through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, are inspiring and admirable. He is a proven leader.
If you weren’t doing the job you’re doing now, what would you do? I assume this question means my ultimate dream job didn’t pan out! Well, then, if I weren’t an attorney, I would want to do something in the field of education. Educators shape communities. Education fosters the enrichment and progress of society.
Favorite movie: My favorite movie is Get Shorty. Great cast, great laughs!
If you were stuck on a desert island what book would you want to have with you? If I were stuck on a desert island, I would want to have the Bible with me. What could be better in a seemingly insurmountable situation than a book full of stories of hope and perseverance over great odds?
