Melanie Perreault
Age: 31
Title: Vice President of Programs
Company: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central MA/Metrowest
Company location: Worcester
Residence: Leicester
College: Framingham State College
Career highlights: I have been with BBBS of Central Massachusetts for more than nine years and worked my way up from case manager, to program director to now vice president of programs. I am responsible for overseeing 13 staff in the agency’s program department. I am also responsible for initiating a program with WPI’s fraternities and sororities, men’s and women’s basketball, and track and field, as well as Holy Cross’s men’s football and baseball teams and women’s soccer, cheering and field hockey athletic teams.
I also oversee the Mentoring Children of Prisoners program, Girls CHOICE program and developed corporate programs with Unum, EMC, TJX and Hanover.
Community involvement: I have been a Big Sister for the past nine years to three children and keep in contact with all of them. I represent Big Brothers Big Sisters on the Girls CHOICE board, and participate in the Rodman Ride for Kids for the last six years.
Businessperson she ad-mires most and why: Colleen O’Brien and Linda Cavaioli, as they are both strong women in good positions, one works in the corporate world and the other in nonprofit. They both give so much to their jobs. They are smart, hardworking and get things done.
If you weren’t doing the job you’re doing now, what would you do? Teach. I went to college to be a home economics teacher (cooking and sewing) but these positions are becoming a thing of the past.
If you were stuck on a desert island what book would you want to have with you? My Sisters Keeper. It is a sad book but it shows strong family bonds and it shows what people will do and go through for their family.
