J.T. Kelley
Age: 33
Title: VP Commercial Lending Division
Company: Commerce Bank & Trust Co.
Company location: Worcester
Residence: Worcester
College: Connecticut College
Career highlights: After graduating college, I began my working career in investment banking where I had the opportunity to live and work in Bermuda for a period of time. I transitioned into commercial banking in 2001 as a credit analyst and quickly progressed on to roles as a portfolio manager and commercial loan officer. Today I am responsible for originating, structuring, and closing commercial loans.
Community involvement: I recently became a board member of the Mohegan Council Inc., Boy Scouts of America. My family and I are members of the Emerald Club of Worcester County which supports the Mercy Centre School here in Worcester. We are also active supporters of various fundraising efforts including MSAA and the American Heart Association. I have participated in several microeconomic lending organizations dating back to my college days, too.
Biggest professional success: Having the opportunity to work and cultivate business relationships in the same community my family and I reside in. I take a great sense of pride in being able to help stimulate economic growth within Worcester County and provide the means for local business owners to realize their goals and objectives.
Dream job: I live it every winter coaching ice hockey at St. John’s High School in Shrewsbury.
Businessperson he most admires and why: It’s tough to single out just one especially without mentioning my parents.
My mom worked so hard and sacrificed a lot early in my life to help provide me with the opportunities most kids only dream of. She’s always been my confidante.
My dad provided me with guidance, discipline, and friendship. He has been a true mentor and coach on the fields, in the rinks, and in life. I wouldn’t be in this industry or had the successes and opportunities without him.
