Are there opportunities for your professional growth within your current job? The following tips are some ways you can climb the corporate ladder and get promoted:
See challenges as opportunities. Instead of looking at new projects as chores, see them as chances to prove your worth.
“Do not complain about hard work, how hard you worked or if your assignment is tougher than your colleagues’,” says an article at Career-Success-For-Newbies.com. Everyone feels their job is the hardest; find ways you can shine.
Ask for more responsibilities. Volunteer to help out other departments to help increase your value within the company.
“Asking for more work shows your interest and desire to help your department and company to succeed — as well as putting a spotlight on your value to the organization,” says Randall S. Hansen in an article on his website, QuintCareers.com.
Ask for a promotion. The notion of expressing your goals to your supervisor may seem intimidating but there are some things you can do to be prepared.
First, you can let your boss know how you foresee yourself progressing in the company ranks. You can also present evidence of your past accomplishments, like sales figures, for instance. Ask him or her what you would need to do to get a promotion.
“Whether it’s taking on some additional projects or taking some classes, you’ll now have a clear idea of the path in front of you, and a valuable ally on your side,” Noel Rozny writes at MyFootpath.com.
Expressing your goals to your supervisor may also serve a dual purpose if it sets you up with a built-in mentor to help guide you on the road to a promotion.
